Tackling Child Labour

Response to BBC’s Panorama Investigation – March 2010

Did you see BBC’s Panorama on 24th March, titled “Chocolate – The Bitter Truth”? The report was about child slave labour and Fairtrade was shown to be a way in which child labour could be eradicated through the stringent checks involved. Sadly, child labour had been found on one of the farms that Nestle source from for chocolate, raising concerns that even Fairtrade isn’t managing to prevent these practices. There are detailed responses on the FLO website and the Foundation’s:

Fairtrade Fortnight 22nd February – 7th March 2010

Fairtrade Fortnight happens each year to promote Fairtrade in the UK. Fairtrade supporters will be encouraging others to make “The Big Swap” to Fairtrade products instead of their usual brands by holding special events, while hundreds of high street and online retailers will have special promotions on Fairtrade goods. For more details on the national scheme, go to the Fairtrade Foundation’s website.  We will be active in Woodbridge over the fortnight so please keep an eye out for us and Fairtrade promotions in many of our shops. Fairtrade Coffee Morning – Saturday 28th November 2009

Join us at St John’s Church, Woodbridge for our annual Fairtrade coffee morning. Held just in time for some excellent Christmas shopping, this is a fantastic place to pick up some fairly traded crafts, cards and food in a relaxed cafe style environment. There will be many stalls all round the church, with tables and chairs in the middle for enjoying a Fairtrade drink and homemade cake.

Doors open at 9.30am and things usually wind up around 12.00pm. We find these coffee mornings get busier towards the end so suggest coming early if you can!
